Most backyard setups make the same mistakes. Here's what I've learned after years of testing feeders:

1. Cardinals — They won't visit a swinging feeder. They need a stable platform or a feeder with a wide perch. Weight matters.

2. Bluebirds — They're insectivores first. A mealworm tray near your feeder station changes everything.

3. Goldfinches — They love nyjer/thistle seed, but most people only stock sunflower. Add a tube feeder and watch them swarm.

4. Woodpeckers — Suet is king. Hang a suet cage on the same pole as your seed feeder and you'll see them within a week.

5. Hummingbirds — Your red-dyed sugar water is actually repelling them. Use plain 4:1 water-to-sugar ratio. No dye.
