Why I built a free comedy/clips feed instead of gating it behind a paywall

Most people building entertainment brands rush straight to a paywall. I didn't — and here's why.

Comedy and meme content lives or dies on distribution. If nobody's watching, there's nothing to sell later. So instead of locking ClipKarma behind a subscription day one, I made it free to join and focused on volume: daily clip drops + a community chat where people can react and share their own finds.

The plan: build a real audience first, learn what actually makes people laugh and share, then layer in paid tiers (exclusive cuts, early access, submission perks) once there's proof people show up daily.

If you're starting a content brand on Whop, my take: don't price your way out of your own distribution. Get the loop working (post → react → share) before you get the wallet involved.
