Most editors overthink clipping. They scrub through 2 hours of footage looking for "the moment." That's backwards.

Here's what actually works — the 3-cut method I use on every project:

Cut 1: The hook. Find a moment where the speaker says something surprising, controversial, or emotionally charged in the first 3 seconds. If the viewer doesn't stop scrolling, nothing else matters.

Cut 2: The tension. Right after the hook, you need 15-30 seconds of escalation. A story building, a point being proven, an argument getting sharper. This is where retention lives.

Cut 3: The payoff. End on a resolution, a punchline, or — even better — a cliffhanger that makes people comment "part 2??"

That's it. Three cuts per clip. Five clips per episode. Most editors can do this in under 30 minutes once they know the pattern.
