Why most competitor research is just screenshotting TikToks (and why that's a waste of time)
Ran an agency for a couple years managing social for brands, and the #1 time sink on my team wasn't posting content — it was researching it. Someone would screenshot a competitor's viral clip, drop it in Slack, and then... nothing. No transcript, no download, no idea WHY it worked, just a vibe.
So we built Clipssaver to fix that specific problem: pull any video from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or Facebook, get an instant transcript + AI breakdown of the hook and pacing driving performance, and download the raw file if you want it for a swipe file or remix.
If you're doing competitor research manually right now, the pattern that actually works: track 5-10 accounts in your niche daily, save anything with disproportionate engagement (views vs. follower count), and look specifically at the first 3 seconds — that's almost always where the hook decision gets made, not the caption.
Happy to share more of what we learned building this if anyone's interested.
