Why I started making jewelry from coconut shells (and why it's actually hard)
Most people think coconut shell jewelry is a craft fair thing. Cheap, mass-produced, forgettable.
I thought the same — until I made my first piece.
Cutting coconut shell properly takes patience. The grain is unpredictable. Sand it wrong and you crack it. Get it right and it turns into something that looks like dark lacquered wood with warmth no factory can replicate.
Every piece I make starts as waste — shells that would've been thrown out. I dry them, cut them by hand, shape and sand them through 6 different grits until they're smooth enough to wear against skin.
