5 things I wish someone told me when I started co-parenting

I've been co-parenting for years now. Here's what I had to learn the hard way:

1. Your kids aren't messengers. Never put them in the middle. If you need to tell your co-parent something, tell them directly. Text, email, app — whatever works. Just leave the kids out of it.

2. "Winning" doesn't exist. The moment you start keeping score, everybody loses. Your kid doesn't care who's "right." They care that mom and dad aren't fighting.

3. Consistency beats perfection. You don't need matching rules in both houses. But bedtime, homework expectations, and screen time should be in the same ballpark. Kids thrive on predictability.

4. Your feelings are valid — but they're yours to manage. Anger, resentment, sadness — all normal. But your kid's birthday party isn't the place to process them. Get a therapist, journal, talk to a friend. Just don't make your kid carry it.

5. It gets easier — but only if you do the work. Co-parenting isn't something that just happens. It takes intention, boundaries, and a lot of deep breaths.

If any of this hit home, I built CoParent Pro for exactly this. It's a community of parents figuring this out together — with strategies, templates, and real talk. No fluff.
