The 3 copywriting skills that got me my first paying client
Most people think copywriting is about being "creative with words." It's not. It's about understanding what makes people act.
Here are the 3 skills that actually matter when you're starting out:
1. Writing headlines that stop the scroll
Your headline does 80% of the work. If nobody reads past the first line, your copy is dead. Practice writing 10 headlines for every piece you create. The best one is usually #7 or #8.
2. Understanding the customer better than they understand themselves
Before you write a single word, you need to know their pain, their desire, and the gap between the two. Read their reviews, lurk in their forums, study their language. Then use it.
3. Making the ask feel like a no-brainer
The CTA isn't "buy now." It's the logical next step after everything you've built. If your copy is doing its job, the reader should feel like NOT clicking is the weird choice.
I teach all of this (and more) inside Ink & Income — completely free for now. If you want to start earning as a freelance copywriter, this is the place.
