What I learned working in costume departments in both the UK and Spain

I've spent years as an assistant costume designer working across both countries, and the differences are fascinating.

In Spain, the approach tends to be more collaborative from day one — the whole department sits down together, shares references, and builds the vision collectively. In the UK, it's often more hierarchical — the designer leads, and the team executes with precision.

Neither is better. But when a Spanish designer lands a gig in the UK (or vice versa), the culture shock is real. Deadlines feel different. Communication styles clash. Even something as simple as sourcing fabric works completely differently.

That's exactly why I started CostumeBridge. I speak both languages, I have right to work in both countries, I know the suppliers, the hire houses, the production workflows — and I have a car in the UK to actually get things done on the ground.

If you're a costume designer or production company working cross-border between the UK and Spain, I can save you a lot of headaches. Whether you need someone to handle a buying trip, coordinate with a Spanish team, or just translate a call with a supplier — I'm your person.
