Why most people lose money on sports picks (and how to actually track an edge)

Season's about to start back up (NFL preseason in 2 weeks, NBA in October), and every year I see the same mistake: people follow picks with no idea why the pick was made, so they can't tell a good process from a lucky streak.

Here's the framework I'm using for Cover Kings this season:

1. Context over conviction. A pick is only as good as the reasoning behind it — injury reports, situational trends (letdown spots, revenge games, back-to-backs), and matchup-specific factors. If a pick can't be explained in 3 sentences, it's a guess.

2. Track everything, publicly. No cherry-picking results. Every pick posted, every result logged. If a service won't show you a real record, that's the tell.

3. Volume kills edge. More picks isn't better. A tight, high-conviction slate beats 15 scattered plays every time.

4. Treat it as a discipline, not a chase. The people who last are the ones managing bankroll like a portfolio, not trying to win it back in one slate.

Building this out now so it's ready before Week 1. If you're into NFL/NBA and want data-backed reasoning instead of a random number in a group chat, come check it out.
