The 3 branding mistakes I see every early-stage startup make

I've worked with dozens of startups on their brand identity and copy. The same three mistakes come up almost every time.

1. Starting with a logo instead of a story

Your logo is not your brand. Your brand is the promise you make to your customer and how you deliver on it. Before you pick colors and fonts, you need to answer: What does my customer feel when they interact with us? Start there.

2. Writing copy for investors instead of customers

Your landing page isn't a pitch deck. "AI-powered synergy platform" means nothing to the person deciding whether to give you their credit card. Write like a human. Say what you do, who it's for, and why it matters — in one sentence.

3. Treating design as decoration

Design isn't just making things look pretty. It's making things work. Every font choice, every whitespace decision, every color contrast — it either helps your customer take action or gets in the way. Treat design as infrastructure, not aesthetics.
