Most creators are overpaying in fees…

and don’t even realize it.

I’ve been looking at a few subscription businesses recently, and a pattern keeps showing up.

A lot of creators think:

“I’m paying around 2.9% in fees.”

But when you actually calculate the full picture:

• payment processing
• refunds
• failed payments
• hidden costs

The real number is often closer to 3.5%–4.2%.

That difference seems small…

until you look at it in real terms.

A creator doing $80k/month at 4% is paying:

→ $3,200/month in fees

At 2.7%, that would be:

→ $2,160/month

That’s over $1,000/month lost
→ more than $12,000 per year

And most creators never even check this.

They focus on:

• getting more members
• scaling revenue

But ignore what’s leaking in the background.

The interesting part is…

many businesses that look “successful” are actually much less efficient than they think.

That’s one of the reasons I started analyzing creator businesses using a Creator Business Score.

Because revenue alone doesn’t tell the full story.

Efficiency matters too.

Have you ever actually calculated your real effective rate? 🤔

Most creators think they have a stable business…

until they realize they’re relying on a single platform.

I looked at a few creator businesses this week doing between $30k–$100k/month.

On paper, everything looked solid:

• growing members
• strong monthly revenue
• consistent sales

But there was one common issue:

100% dependency on one platform for revenue.

No backup.
No alternative payment flow.
No redundancy.

That means:

If payouts get delayed
If something gets flagged
If access is restricted

→ revenue stops immediately.

Most creators don’t think about this early on.

But once your business starts doing serious volume, this becomes one of the biggest risks.

That’s one of the reasons I started analyzing creator businesses differently.

Not just:

• revenue
• growth
• pricing

But also:

• payment dependency
• revenue stability
• infrastructure risk

I built a tool that generates something called a Creator Business Score based on these factors.

Some businesses look strong on the surface…

but are actually fragile underneath.

If you're running a subscription business, it’s worth asking:

How stable is your revenue, really?

Curious — how many of you are running your business on a single platform right now? 🤔

Most creators don’t realize how much they’re actually paying in payment fees.

I analyzed a few subscription businesses this week, and the numbers were interesting.

Here’s what I found:

• Many creators think they’re paying around 2.9%
• In reality, their effective rate was closer to 3.6%–4.2%

That difference doesn’t sound huge… until you look at it in dollars.

Example:

A creator doing $100k/month at 4% is paying $4,000/month in fees.

At 2.7%, that would be $2,700/month.

That’s a difference of $1,300 every single month
→ $15,600 per year

Most creators focus on:

• getting more members
• increasing revenue

But very few analyze what they’re losing on the backend.

That’s one of the reasons I built a tool that calculates a

Creator Business Score.

It shows:

• your true effective payment rate
• your chargeback risk
• and where you might be leaving money on the table

If you’re running a subscription business, it’s worth knowing your real numbers.

What is the Creator Business Score of a creator business doing about $60k/month?

Their community would look successful from the outside, but the numbers would tell a different story.

Here’s what the analysis showed:

• Effective payment rate: 3.9%

• Chargeback rate: 1.4%

• Estimated revenue lost to fees and pricing inefficiencies: ~$9,200/month

Most creators focus on growth — more members, more revenue.

But many don’t realize how much money leaks through payment fees, chargebacks, or pricing structure.

So I built a tool that calculates something I call a Creator Business Score.

It analyzes three things:

• your payment processing costs

• your chargeback risk

• your revenue potential based on benchmarks

In about 30 seconds you can see where your business might be losing money.

If you're running a community, course, SaaS, or subscription product, I’d be curious to see what score your business gets.

If anyone wants, I can analyze your creator business and show your score 😉.
