If you've ever watched a video and thought "why does this feel like they're just reading" — it's usually one of these five fixes:

1. Slow your scroll speed down more than feels comfortable.

Most people set scroll speed to match how fast they read silently, which is way faster than natural speaking pace. Drop it 15-20% slower than your first instinct.

2. Break your script into short lines, not paragraphs.

Your eyes jump less and your pacing sounds more conversational when each line is a single thought (10-15 words max), not a dense block of text.

3. Write like you talk, not like you'd write an email.

Contractions ("it's" not "it is"), shorter sentences, and the occasional trailing thought all read more naturally on camera.

4. Position the camera lens as close to the text as possible.

Eye contact is the #1 thing viewers subconsciously judge. Even a few inches of offset between your camera and the scrolling text is noticeable at 1080p+.

5. Rehearse once without recording, just to catch scroll-speed mismatches.

The biggest tell of "reading off a prompter" is your eyes darting to catch up with (or wait for) the text. One dry run fixes 90% of that.
