Why your jeweler's sapphire probably isn't cut to its potential

Most sapphires in jewelry stores are mass-cut overseas. The cutters optimize for weight retention, not brilliance. A 2-carat stone that could have been breathtaking gets a lazy oval with a window you can read through.

I've been cutting gemstones professionally in Estonia for years. Every stone I touch is natural, sourced direct from miners — no synthetics, no treatments beyond standard heat. Sapphires, rubies, emeralds.

The difference between a mass-cut and a precision-cut stone is night and day. When you optimize for light return instead of carat weight, even a smaller stone will outperform a larger one.

I just opened commissions here. If you're a jeweler or designer looking for stones that actually perform — custom shape, custom faceting, cut specifically for your design — this is the place.

100 stones in my portfolio already. Happy to share examples.
