What would you buy from a custom invitation service?

I've designed hundreds of invitations and the same mistakes keep coming up. If you're planning a wedding (or any big event), this might save you a headache.

1. Picking colors from a screen, not from real life

That dusty rose you fell in love with on Pinterest? It might print as bubblegum pink. Always reference a physical color swatch or Pantone code if you can. Better yet — share your venue decor, outfit fabric swatches, or flower choices. I match to real-world references, not screen colors.

2. Cramming too much text onto one card

Your invitation doesn't need to contain every detail about the event. Keep the main card elegant and minimal — names, date, time, venue. Put directions, dress code, dietary info, and RSVP details on a separate insert or a QR-linked page.

3. Waiting until the last minute

Custom design takes time. Ideally you want your invitations finalized 3-4 months before the event so there's breathing room for printing, addressing, and mailing. Rush jobs are possible but they cost more and limit your options.
