I've been building custom UAV models for years, and the #1 thing people get wrong is thinking mass-produced drones are "good enough" for display or serious hobbyist work.

Here's the difference:

Off-the-shelf: Cookie-cutter designs, cheap plastic, zero personalization. You get the same thing as everyone else.

Handmade custom: You choose every detail — frame geometry, paint scheme, scale, materials. The finished product is one-of-a-kind.

A few things I've learned building customs:

• Scale accuracy matters more than people think. A 2mm error on a wing angle completely changes how a model looks. I measure everything against real schematics.

• Material choice is everything. Balsa wood, carbon fiber, resin — each has a use case. Mixing them wrong and the model looks off or doesn't hold up.

• Paint is where the magic happens. A clean build with bad paint looks worse than a rough build with great paint. I use automotive-grade finishes.
