Why your skincare routine fails you every month (and what to do instead)

You wash your face. You use the serums. You drink water. And every single month, the same jawline breakouts come back like clockwork.

Here's what nobody told you: your skin needs different things at different points in your cycle. Using the same routine all month is like wearing a winter coat in July — technically it's clothing, but it's working against you.

The pattern:

  • Days 1-5 (period): Your skin barrier is at its weakest. This is NOT the time for retinol or exfoliating acids. Focus on hydration — ceramides, hyaluronic acid, gentle everything.

  • Days 6-14 (follicular): Estrogen rises and your skin is resilient. This is your window for vitamin C, gentle exfoliation, and trying new products.

  • Days 15-28 (luteal): Progesterone kicks in, oil thickens, pores clog. Start treating your jawline with niacinamide and zinc BEFORE the breakout appears.

On the nutrition side: The same applies. Certain foods support your hormones during specific phases. Anti-inflammatory foods in your luteal phase can prevent breakouts before they start.

I built a 6-week system that maps all of this out — what to eat, what to apply, and when. No 10-step routines. No cutting out food groups.

If your skin changes with your cycle (and it does), your approach should too.
