The actual way to learn Japanese (from someone living in Tokyo)

Most people who try to learn Japanese do the same thing: download Duolingo, do it for a week, then forget about it.

Here's what actually works — and it's not complicated:

1. Learn 5 new words every day — not 50. Just 5. Use Anki or flashcards. Consistency > volume.

2. Learn ONE grammar point per day — present tense, past tense, particles. One at a time. Stack them.

3. Use what you learn immediately — say it out loud. Text someone. Order food. The gap between "knowing" and "using" is where most people quit.

4. Find people to practice with — this is the unlock. Speaking with real people forces your brain to retrieve words under pressure. That's how fluency works.

The apps and tools are just scaffolding. The real learning happens when you open your mouth and try.

I built Daily Japanese for people who want to actually practice — not just study. We share new words, practice together, and hold each other accountable.

If you're serious about Japanese, come through.
