Why adults make better ballet students than kids

Controversial take: if you're 25-50 and have never touched a barre, you actually have advantages over the 8-year-old in a tutu.

Here's what 15 years of teaching both has taught me:

Adults understand intention. A child repeats a plié 200 times before feeling it. An adult can connect mind to muscle in a single correction because they understand why the movement matters.

You already have body awareness. You've lived in your body for decades. You know what tension feels like. You know when something is off. That self-awareness is the single most valuable skill in ballet — and kids don't have it yet.

Discipline is not your problem. Adults who start ballet at 30 aren't doing it because their parents signed them up. They're there because they chose it. That intrinsic motivation is worth more than a decade of compliance.

The real barrier? Finding instruction designed for adult bodies and adult learning patterns. Most ballet classes are watered-down versions of children's curricula. That's exactly what I built Dance Ballet to solve.

If you've ever watched a ballet and thought "I wish I could move like that" — you can. The window isn't closed. It never was.

Welcome to Dance Ballet 🩰

Welcome — I'm thrilled you're here.

Here's how to get the most out of your membership:

1. Start with Ballet Foundations — Head to the course tab. Every lesson is sequenced from absolute zero. Follow the order and don't skip ahead.

2. Join the Student Lounge — This is your community. Ask questions, share progress videos, and connect with other adult beginners on the same journey.

3. Check Updates & Tips weekly — I post technique breakdowns, posture corrections, and practice routines here regularly.

4. Be patient with yourself — Ballet rewards consistency, not perfection. Even 15 minutes of daily practice will transform your movement within weeks.

If you have any questions, drop them in the Student Lounge or message me directly through support. Let's dance.
