The 3 things I tell every beginner before their first dance class

I've taught hundreds of beginners over the years, and the same three fears come up every single time. Here's what I always say:

1. "I have no rhythm"

You do. Everyone does. Rhythm isn't some gift you're born with — it's a skill you build. Clap along to your favorite song right now. That's rhythm. We just build from there.

2. "I'm going to look stupid"

Absolutely. And so did I when I started. So does everyone. That awkward stage is where all the growth happens. The people who look "natural" on the dance floor went through it too — they just kept going.

3. "I'm too old / too unfit / too stiff"

Dance isn't gymnastics. You don't need to do a split. You need to move your body in a way that feels good. I've seen 60-year-olds pick up choreography faster than 20-year-olds because they actually listen to the music.

If any of this sounds like you, that's exactly why I built Dance Family — a space where beginners can learn without judgment, go at their own pace, and actually enjoy the process.

No mirrors. No pressure. Just music and movement.
