How to pick the right cleats for your playing style
Most players buy cleats based on brand hype. Here's how to actually pick the right ones for YOUR game:
Speed players (wingers, strikers):
Go lightweight. Under 200g. You want a thin upper that gives you closer ball contact and a stud pattern built for straight-line acceleration. Forget ankle support — you need freedom.
Midfielders / playmakers:
Look for a textured upper with a slightly padded instep. You're passing and receiving all game — comfort and touch matter more than weight. A conical stud setup gives you 360° agility.
Defenders:
Durability and lockdown. Thicker material, reinforced toe box, and blade studs for grip when you're planting and tackling. Don't skimp on ankle stability.
Surface matters too:
FG (Firm Ground) = natural grass, most versatile
AG (Artificial Ground) = turf/3G pitches, shorter studs
SG (Soft Ground) = muddy/wet conditions, removable studs
