Why 90% of Drop-shippers Overpay for Chinese Products (And How to Fix It)

I've helped dozens of small e-commerce sellers source directly from China, and the #1 mistake I see is this: they're buying from middlemen who mark up 1688 products by 3-5x on AliExpress.

Here's the reality most Western drop-shippers don't know:

1688.com is where Chinese sellers themselves buy inventory. It's Alibaba's domestic wholesale platform — same factories, fraction of the price. But there's a catch: it's entirely in Chinese, payments require Alipay, and most suppliers won't respond to English messages.

Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) is a hidden goldmine for trending products. Chinese consumers post honest reviews and unboxings there daily. If you can read the trends on Xiaohongshu before they hit TikTok, you're 2-3 months ahead of your competition.

The barrier isn't finding products — it's the language, the payment systems, and knowing which suppliers are legit vs. which ones will ghost you after taking your money.

That's exactly what I solve at China Sourcing Pro. I'm bilingual (Chinese/English), I've vetted hundreds of 1688 suppliers, and I handle the communication and payment coordination so you can focus on selling.

$30/month gets you direct sourcing support, curated product picks, and a community of fellow sourcing pros. No middlemen, no markups.

3 Design Tips to Instantly Elevate Your Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) Covers

After years of creating content, I've discovered a harsh truth: No matter how great your content is, nobody clicks if the cover looks bad.

Here are three cover design tips I've tested and proven over and over:

1. White space isn't laziness — it's sophistication

Many people try to cram their covers with text and images. But flip the script — generous white space + one punchy headline can double your click-through rate.

2. Never use more than two fonts

One headline font + one body font is all you need. Too many fonts make you look unprofessional. My recommendation: Source Han Sans + Source Han Serif — versatile and foolproof.

3. Color consistency = personal brand

Pick 2–3 main colors and keep them consistent across all your covers. When someone scrolls through your profile, they'll recognize you instantly.

These tips sound simple, but 90% of creators still don't follow them.

I've put together a collection of ready-to-use templates at Ren Creative to help you skip the "design paralysis" phase entirely. Join for free to grab them 👇
