Most detailers are leaving thousands on the table every month because of how they price their services. I've seen it over and over again.
Here are the 3 biggest pricing mistakes and how to fix them:
1. Charging by the hour instead of by the vehicle
When you charge hourly, you're punishing yourself for getting faster. A full detail on a sedan might take you 4 hours now, but once you dial in your process, you'll do it in 2.5. If you're charging $50/hr, you just gave yourself a pay cut for getting better. Switch to flat-rate packages based on vehicle size. Sedan, SUV, truck. Simple.
2. Not having a premium tier
If your most expensive service is $300, you're missing the clients who WANT to spend $500-800. Create a top-tier package — ceramic coating, interior deep clean, engine bay, the works. Even if only 10% of customers pick it, it'll move the needle hard.
3. Discounting to win jobs
Every time you drop your price to beat a competitor, you're training your market to expect cheap work. Instead, add more value at the same price — throw in a free air freshener, a maintenance guide, a 30-day touch-up guarantee. Compete on experience, not price.
