The 3 things I wish I knew before studying CS in college

I've helped dozens of students go from "I've never written a line of code" to landing internships at real companies. Here's what I've learned:

1. Your GPA matters way less than your projects.

Recruiters at tech companies spend about 6 seconds on your resume. A cool side project that solves a real problem stands out infinitely more than a 3.8 GPA with nothing to show for it.

2. Start building before you feel ready.

The biggest trap is "tutorial hell" — watching video after video without ever writing your own code. The discomfort of not knowing what you're doing IS the learning. Push through it.

3. The language doesn't matter (at first).

Python, JavaScript, Java — pick one and go deep. The concepts transfer. People who spend weeks debating which language to learn are just procrastinating.

If you're a college student trying to break into tech, I'm building something at Dev Ascent specifically for you — structured courses, live coaching, and a community of people on the same path.

More coming soon.
