The 3-second rule for reacting to DFS line moves (most people react too slow OR too fast)
Quick hot take from building out a line-move reaction SOP for DFS lineup building:
Most players are reacting to line moves wrong in one of two ways:
Too slow — by the time they notice a move, the value is gone and they're just chasing public money.
Too fast — they see one tick and panic-swap a player before confirming it's not just a single-book anomaly.
The fix is a 3-step confirmation check before you touch your lineup:
Cross-book confirmation — is the move showing on 2+ books, or is it just one outlier line? Single-book moves are noise 80% of the time.
Size the move — a half-point shift means something different than a 2+ point swing. Bigger moves = bigger signal, but also check if it's garbage-time driven (blowout total shifts don't always mean player role changes).
Check the "why" before the "what" — injury news, weather, or lineup change? Each one changes which players actually benefit. A total moving because of pace ≠ a total moving because of a banged-up starter.
If a move fails any of these three checks, don't touch your lineup yet. That's it — that's the whole discipline. Most bad swaps happen because someone skipped step 1.
Built a full playbook around this (plus the automation stack to catch these moves before they're priced in, and a troubleshooting guide for when alerts misfire) if anyone wants the deeper breakdown — happy to answer questions here either way.
