I made $0 from my first 3 digital products. Here's what I changed to finally sell.
Everyone talks about "passive income from digital products" like it's easy.
Create an ebook. Upload it. Watch the money roll in.
That's not how it works. I know because I tried it — three times — and made nothing.
Here's what actually went wrong and what I changed:
Mistake 1: I built what I wanted, not what people needed.
My first ebook was about a topic I was passionate about. Nobody searched for it. Nobody asked for it. I spent 3 weeks writing something the market didn't want.
The fix: Start with the problem, not the product. Go to Reddit, Twitter, YouTube comments. Find what people are actively asking for help with. Build that.
Mistake 2: I priced it like I was embarrassed to charge.
$2.99 for an ebook I spent weeks on. Know what $2.99 signals? "This probably isn't worth much." When I raised the price to $9-15, sales actually went UP. People associate price with value.
Mistake 3: I had no distribution plan.
I posted it once on social media and waited. That's not a launch strategy — that's a prayer. You need at minimum: a countdown, early testimonials or reviews, a reason to buy NOW (launch discount), and multiple touchpoints across platforms.
What actually works:
Validate before you build — ask 10 people if they'd pay for it
Price with confidence — $7-19 is the sweet spot for ebooks
Make the first 2 pages irresistible — that's your sales pitch
Launch like it matters — promo codes, urgency, social proof
I put everything I learned into a step-by-step playbook. Every chapter is something I wish someone told me before I wasted months guessing.
If you've been thinking about selling a digital product but don't know where to start — or you tried and it flopped — this is for you.
