Hey parents, is anyone else dealing with toddlers waking up in the middle of the night?
If your toddler wakes up every single night and you've tried everything — blackout curtains, white noise, later bedtimes, earlier bedtimes — here's what's probably happening.
1. The bedtime association trap
If your kid falls asleep while being rocked, fed, or held, they literally don't know how to fall back asleep without it. Every time they hit a light sleep cycle (every 45-90 min), they wake up and need you to recreate the conditions. Fix: teach independent sleep onset. It's not about crying it out — it's about gradually shifting how they fall asleep.
2. Overtiredness is real
Counter-intuitive, but a later bedtime = more night waking. Overtired toddlers produce cortisol, which makes them restless. Most toddlers (12-36 months) need a 7-7:30pm bedtime. If yours is going down at 8:30+, try moving it earlier by 15 min every 2-3 days.
3. Inconsistent responses
If sometimes you go in, sometimes you wait, sometimes you bring them to your bed — they can't learn the pattern. Pick a response method and stick with it for at least 5 days straight before judging if it works.
I built a 14-day program that walks you through fixing all three, step by step. No fluff, no judgment, just a clear system from a parent who's been through it.
