Most carp anglers grab whatever's on sale at the tackle shop. That's why they blank more often than they should.

After years of testing bait on pressured waters, here's what actually matters:

1. Match the water temperature

Cold water (below 50°F) = low-oil, fruity boilies. The fish's metabolism is slow — they can't digest fishmeal efficiently. Switch to citrus or pineapple-based baits and watch your catch rate double.

2. Size matters more than you think

Everyone throws 18mm. Try 12mm on pressured venues. Smaller baits = less suspicious feeding behavior. Carp hoover them up without thinking twice.

3. Stop using shelf-life on day sessions

Fresh-frozen boilies leak attractants 3x faster than shelf-life. If you're doing a 12-hour session, frozen bait will outperform every time. Save the shelf-life for backup.

4. PVA bags change everything

A small mesh PVA bag with crushed boilies, pellets, and a splash of liquid attractant around your hook bait creates an irresistible feeding spot. It's the single biggest edge you can give yourself.
