The bankroll rule bettors know and almost nobody actually follows
Everyone who bets seriously has heard of unit sizing. Almost nobody sticks to it once a losing streak hits — and that's the actual reason most bettors go broke, not bad picks.
A few things we've seen separate long-term profitable bettors from the rest:
Flat unit sizing beats "feel" sizing every time. The moment you start betting bigger to "get back" losses, variance stops being your friend. 1-2% of bankroll per play, no exceptions, even on your highest-conviction pick.
Track CLV (closing line value), not just wins. A bet can lose and still be correct if you beat the closing line. Bettors obsessed with win/loss record instead of CLV usually can't tell why they're actually losing money over time.
Automate the boring part. Manually logging bets, tracking odds movement across books, and calculating true unit size is where discipline quietly breaks down. This is exactly why we built EdgePulse — the software enforces the math so emotion doesn't get a vote.
Discipline isn't a personality trait. It's a system. If your system depends on willpower during a losing streak, it will fail eventually.
