Your Daily Vitamins Might Be Doing More Harm Than Good

You take your vitamins every morning thinking you're doing something good for your body. But have you ever flipped the bottle over and actually looked into where those capsules come from?

Here's the truth most people don't want to hear: the supplement industry is barely regulated, and the majority of what's on shelves is garbage.

The sourcing problem is massive.

Most mainstream vitamins — the ones you grab at the drugstore or order off the first page of Amazon — are manufactured as cheaply as possible. We're talking:

  • Synthetic ingredients produced in labs using industrial chemicals, not extracted from real food sources

  • Raw materials imported from countries with zero quality control — no testing for heavy metals, pesticides, or contaminants

  • Fillers, binders, and artificial colorants that your body doesn't recognize and can't properly absorb

  • "Proprietary blends" that hide the actual dosages so you have no idea what you're really getting

A $12 bottle of multivitamins didn't get cheap by accident. Corners were cut at every stage — sourcing, manufacturing, testing, and packaging.

What to look for instead:

Third-party tested — Look for NSF, USP, or independent lab certifications. If a company won't test their product, ask yourself why.

Whole food sourced — Vitamins derived from real food sources (like vitamin C from acerola cherry vs. synthetic ascorbic acid) are absorbed and utilized by your body completely differently.

Transparent sourcing — Legitimate companies will tell you exactly where their ingredients come from. If they won't, move on.

GMP-certified facilities — This means the manufacturing facility follows Good Manufacturing Practices. It's the bare minimum, and many brands still don't have it.

Small-batch, US or EU manufactured — Not because everything imported is bad, but because domestic facilities are held to stricter standards and are easier to audit.

The bottom line: You're taking supplements to improve your health. If the source is toxic, you're doing the opposite. Spend the extra money on brands that are transparent about their sourcing, testing, and manufacturing. Your body is not the place to cut costs.

Stop trusting labels. Start researching companies.

5 'Healthy' Products That Are Actually Poisoning You

Most people think they're making healthy choices. They're not. Here are 5 everyday products that are quietly wrecking your health — and what to use instead.

1. Conventional Deodorant

Aluminum, parabens, phthalates. Your armpits are one of the most absorbent areas on your body, and you're rubbing endocrine disruptors into them daily. Switch to a clean mineral or tallow-based deodorant.

2. "Natural Flavor" in Your Food

This label means almost nothing. It can contain hundreds of synthetic chemicals, solvents, and preservatives. If the ingredient list says "natural flavor," you have no idea what you're eating. Buy whole foods or brands that list every single ingredient.

3. Seed Oils

Canola, soybean, sunflower, safflower — these are in everything. They're highly processed, inflammatory, and oxidize when heated. Cook with tallow, ghee, coconut oil, or extra virgin olive oil instead.

4. Mainstream Protein Powder

Heavy metals, artificial sweeteners, seed oils, "natural flavors" again. Most protein powders are glorified junk food. Look for grass-fed whey or organic plant protein with 5 or fewer ingredients.

5. Non-Organic Mattresses

You spend 8 hours a night on polyurethane foam soaked in flame retardants. These off-gas VOCs directly into your lungs while you sleep. Invest in an organic latex or wool mattress.

The pattern is clear: the default option is almost always the toxic one. You have to actively choose better.

That's exactly what we do inside Essence Coaching — break down every category of your life and replace the garbage with clean, organic, pure alternatives. Plus real fitness programming to build a body that can actually thrive.
