The #1 mistake first-time homeowners make with a wobbly door hinge (and the 2-minute fix)
If a door in your house is sagging, sticking, or won't latch right, don't reach for a new hinge yet — 9 times out of 10 the screws have just stripped out the wood behind them.
The fix that actually works:
Remove one screw at a time (don't take the whole door off).
Take a golf tee or wooden matchstick, dip it in wood glue, and jam it into the stripped screw hole.
Snap off the excess flush with the hinge plate.
Let it dry 30 minutes, then re-drive the original screw right back in.
That's it. The screw now bites into solid wood again instead of spinning in a chewed-out hole. Zero new parts needed.
We're building out a full library of these fixes — real repairs, no fluff — over in the Project Videos hub. If you're setting up your first tool bag, our starter sets are built around exactly the tools used in these tips, not random 200-piece kits you'll never fully use.
