Desmos is built into the Digital SAT — but most students use it wrong. Here are the 5 mistakes killing your math score:


1. Graphing everything

Not every question needs a graph. If it's a straightforward algebra problem, solve it algebraically. Graphing wastes 30-60 seconds.


2. Not using sliders for quadratics

When a question gives you y = ax² + bx + c and asks about the vertex or roots, use Desmos sliders. Type a, b, c as variables and slide until it matches the conditions. This alone saves you from factoring errors.


3. Forgetting to zoom out

Default Desmos window shows roughly -10 to 10. Many SAT problems have answers outside this range. Always zoom out first.


4. Typing expressions wrong

Desmos uses ^ for exponents. Writing x2 instead of x^2 gives you a completely different answer. Double-check your input.
