The 3 reasons skinny guys never gain muscle (and exactly how to fix each one)
I spent 2 years spinning my wheels in the gym before I figured this out. Here's what I wish someone told me on day one.
1. You're not eating enough — and it's not even close.
Most skinny guys think they eat a lot. They don't. Track your food for 3 days and you'll see the truth. You're probably hitting 1,800-2,000 calories when you need 2,800-3,200.
Fix: Calculate your TDEE, add 300-500 calories on top. Hit 0.8-1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. Every. Single. Day.
2. You're doing random workouts instead of following a program.
Chest Monday, arms Tuesday, skip legs, repeat. Sound familiar? Without progressive overload and a structured split, you're just exercising — you're not training.
Fix: Follow a proven program for 12 weeks minimum. Progressive overload means adding weight, reps, or sets over time. Not switching exercises every week because you saw something on TikTok.
3. You're not recovering.
Training breaks muscle down. Sleep and food build it back up. If you're sleeping 5-6 hours and partying on weekends, your body literally cannot grow.
Fix: 7-8 hours of sleep minimum. Water. Creatine (5g daily, nothing fancy). That's it. Supplements won't save a bad foundation.
The formula is boring. Eat enough. Train with a plan. Sleep. Repeat for 12 weeks. The guys who look like they were "always big" just did the boring stuff longer than everyone else.
If you're ready to stop guessing and start growing, that's exactly what I built FaustoGym for.
