How I Design Crossover ROM Hacks — My Full Creative Process
Most people see a hacked ROM and think it's just palette swaps and sprite edits. It's way deeper than that.
When I build a crossover — say, merging two completely different game universes — I start with the lore. What would it actually look like if these worlds collided? What are the rules? What breaks? That's where the real art lives.
My process:
Lore mapping — I write out the timeline of both universes and find the fracture points where they'd naturally overlap
Character design — Every crossover character gets a full redesign that respects both source materials
Environment art — The worlds need to feel like they belong together, not just copy-pasted side by side
Storytelling — I write actual narrative arcs, not just "character A meets character B"
I've been doing this for years across YouTube, DeviantArt, and Pokejumper.org. Now I'm bringing the entire behind-the-scenes universe here — the art, the stories, the design docs, all of it.
If you're into original fan art, deep game lore, or just want to see how ROM crossover worlds get built from scratch, this is the spot.
