5 Mistakes Most Home Gym Builders Make (And How to Avoid Them)
Most people building a home gym waste money on the wrong things and regret it within 6 months. Here's what actually matters:
1. Buying too much too early
You don't need 10 different machines. A barbell, plates, pull-up bar, and a set of dumbbells will cover 90% of what you'll ever do. Master the basics first.
2. Skimping on the flooring
Rubber mats aren't optional — they protect your floors, reduce noise, and actually make training safer. Get this right from day one or you'll do it twice.
3. Buying cheap weights that don't match
Mixed-brand plates with inconsistent sizing are a nightmare. Stick to one standard (bumper or iron) and build out from there.
4. Ignoring the ceiling height
Overhead press, pull-ups, jump rope — you need clearance. Measure before you buy ANY equipment.
5. Not planning for progression
Buy a barbell that can hold 600+ lbs even if you're lifting 135. You'll grow into it. Upgrading later costs double.
Building a serious training setup doesn't have to cost a fortune — it just takes the right priorities. That's what we built Feilaosi Fitness Equipment around.
