Why 90% of football transfer rumors are wrong (and how to spot the real ones)

Every summer the same thing happens. Some random account tweets "HERE WE GO" and suddenly half of Football Twitter thinks Mbappé is going to Newcastle.

Here's what I've learned tracking transfers for years:

Tier 1 vs. Tier Garbage

Not all journalists are equal. Fabrizio Romano, David Ornstein, Matteo Moretto — these guys have actual sources. That fan account with 500 followers "confirming" a deal? Delete that from your brain.

The "interest" trap

"Club X is interested in Player Y" means absolutely nothing. Every club is "interested" in every good player. Wake me up when there's an actual bid.

Agent leaks are manipulation

When a player's agent leaks to the press, they're either trying to force a move or get a better contract. It's not news — it's negotiation tactics played out in public.

Follow the money, not the hype

Look at the selling club's financial situation, the buying club's wage structure, and whether the deal actually makes football sense. If it doesn't add up financially, it's not happening.

I built First Whistle to cut through all of that. Real scoops, real analysis, zero clickbait. If you're tired of refreshing Twitter hoping someone reliable tweets something — this is your spot.
