The 3 Training Mistakes That Kill Athletic Performance
After years of coaching competitive athletes, I keep seeing the same three mistakes over and over. These apply whether you're a sprinter, a basketball player, or a CrossFit competitor.
1. Training volume without intensity management
More isn't better. Better is better. Most athletes are grinding through junk volume when they should be managing intensity cycles — hard days hard, easy days easy. If every session feels the same, you're leaving gains on the table.
2. Ignoring sport-specific energy systems
A 100m sprinter and a soccer midfielder have completely different fuel demands. Yet both end up doing the same generic "cardio." Your conditioning needs to match the energy system your sport actually uses — ATP-PCr for power sports, glycolytic for repeated sprints, oxidative for endurance.
3. Recovery is training, not rest
Sleep, nutrition timing, and active recovery aren't optional add-ons. They're where adaptation actually happens. If you train at 100% but recover at 50%, you're operating at 50%.
I built FitArena to help competitive athletes fix exactly these problems — structured programming, sport-specific protocols, and a community that holds you accountable.
