The 3 biggest mistakes beginners make in their first 90 days at the gym

I've coached dozens of people through their first months of training. The same mistakes come up every single time.

1. Program hopping

You don't need the "optimal" program. You need consistency on ANY reasonable program for at least 8-12 weeks. Pick one, run it, and track your lifts. Progressive overload beats "the perfect split" every time.

2. Eating like you're still on the couch

Training creates the stimulus. Food creates the result. If you're not eating enough protein (0.7-1g per lb of bodyweight), you're leaving gains on the table. You don't need to count every macro — just nail protein and eat enough.

3. Ignoring recovery

Sleep is the most anabolic thing you can do. 7-9 hours. Non-negotiable. If you're training 6 days a week on 5 hours of sleep, you're going backwards.

Fix these three things and you'll outpace 90% of beginners in your gym.

I break down topics like this every week inside FitPulse — science-backed, no fluff. If you're serious about doing this right from the start, check it out.
