The 3 mistakes every gym beginner makes (and how to avoid them)

Most people who start going to the gym quit within the first 3 months. Not because they're lazy — because they make these 3 avoidable mistakes:

1. Doing too much too soon

You don't need a 6-day PPL split on week one. Start with 3 full-body sessions per week. Master the basics: squat, hinge, push, pull. Build consistency before you build volume.

2. Ignoring nutrition

Training is the stimulus. Food is the fuel. You don't need to count every macro, but you do need enough protein (0.7-1g per lb of bodyweight) and you need to eat enough to actually recover.

3. No plan = no progress

Walking into the gym and doing whatever looks fun is fine for week one. After that, you need a structured program with progressive overload built in. Otherwise you're just exercising, not training.

I built FitVault to solve all three. Structured training guides, meal templates, and a step-by-step ebook for people who are just getting started. No fluff, no bro science — just what works.
