How I find $5 thrift flips that sell for $80+

Most people walk into a thrift store and browse randomly. That's why they go home empty-handed.

Here's how I actually source:

1. Know your brands before you walk in

I keep a mental list of 15-20 brands that consistently resell well — vintage Levi's, Ralph Lauren, Columbia, Carhartt, Champion. I'm not looking at everything. I'm scanning tags fast.

2. Check fabric first, brand second

100% wool, 100% cotton, real leather — these hold value. Polyester blends? I put it back immediately.

3. The "smell test" is real

Mildew, smoke, or anything that won't wash out kills the flip. I pass on anything questionable.

4. Condition over brand

A near-perfect no-name piece can outsell a damaged designer item. Pilling, tears, and stains eat your margin fast.

5. Price anchoring works in your favor

If the same item is listed on Depop for $120 and yours is clean at $65, you'll move it fast. I always check comps before I price anything.

Been doing this for a while — now running it properly at Flip with Gab. New drops posted regularly.
