Why most 9-5ers quit CrossFit in month 2 (and how to not be one of them)

Ran a box for a while now and the pattern is always the same: someone joins hyped, goes 5x a week for three weeks, then disappears by week 6.

It's never fitness level. It's always one of these three things:

  1. They tried to out-intensity their schedule. If you work 50 hours and have a family, 5 sessions a week isn't a program, it's a countdown to burnout. 3 solid sessions beats 5 inconsistent ones every time.

  1. No accountability outside the whiteboard. The people who stick around have a training partner, a coach who notices when they're gone, or a community that texts "you good?" after two missed days. Willpower alone doesn't survive a bad week at work.

  1. They chased PRs before they had positions. Bad squat depth and worse pulling mechanics compound into nagging injuries by month 3, which quietly kills more memberships than boredom ever does.

If you're evaluating a box (or trying to fix your own habits at one), ask about their onboarding for busy professionals specifically — not just "do you offer classes," but whether they'll actually help you build a schedule you can sustain for a year, not a month.

That's the whole game. Consistency beats intensity, always.
