After years of shooting newborns, I've learned that the magic isn't just in the camera — it's in what you do after the click.

Here are three overlay techniques I use in almost every newborn session:

1. Soft light wraps — A warm, directional light overlay placed at 15-20% opacity can completely change the mood of a studio shot. I match the angle to my key light for consistency.

2. Textured backdrops — Instead of replacing backgrounds entirely, I layer subtle fabric textures at low opacity. It adds depth without looking composited. Linen and muslin textures work beautifully.

3. Petal & bloom accents — Single flower petals placed around the frame at varying sizes create a natural, organic feel. The trick is keeping them slightly out of focus — match the depth of field in your original shot.

These three techniques alone elevated my client delivery from "nice photos" to "art they hang on their walls."
