1. Prep is 70% of the job. If your painter skips sanding, patching, and priming — the finish will look great for about 3 months. Then it won't.

2. Not all paint is equal. That "one coat coverage" paint from the big box store? It's rarely one coat. A quality paint (Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams) saves time and lasts 2-3x longer.

3. Get an itemized quote, not a lump sum. You should know exactly what you're paying for — labor, materials, prep, number of coats. If a painter won't break it down, that's a red flag.

4. Weather matters more than you think. Exterior paint needs the right temperature and humidity window. A painter who rushes an exterior job in the wrong conditions is setting you up for peeling.
