5 AI prompts that actually help freelancers land clients
Most freelancers use AI wrong. They ask ChatGPT to "write me a proposal" and get generic slop that sounds like every other freelancer.
Here's what actually works:
1. The Research Prompt
Before you pitch, feed the AI everything about the prospect — their website, recent posts, competitors. Then ask it to identify 3 specific problems you could solve. Now your pitch is laser-targeted.
2. The "Anti-Template" Outreach
Instead of "Hi, I'm a freelancer who does X," use AI to craft an opening line that references something specific about THEIR business. Generic outreach = ignore. Specific outreach = reply.
3. The Scope Clarifier
Clients give vague briefs. Use AI to generate 10 clarifying questions before you quote. This does two things: makes you look professional AND protects your scope.
4. The Follow-Up Sequence
Most deals die in the follow-up. Use AI to write 3 follow-up messages — each one adding new value (a relevant case study, a quick audit, a market insight). Not "just checking in."
5. The Pricing Reframe
When a client pushes back on price, use AI to draft a response that reframes the conversation around ROI. "This $2,000 project will save you 15 hours/week" hits different than "that's my rate."
These are just the basics. Inside AI Freelance Lab, I share the exact prompts, templates, and workflows I use to help freelancers close more deals — updated weekly.
