Why tracking calories didn't work for you (and what to do instead)
You downloaded MyFitnessPal. You weighed your chicken breast on a food scale. You logged every bite for 4 days.
Then you stopped. Because it felt like a part-time job.
Calorie tracking works in theory. It fails in practice for most people because:
It turns eating into math homework
It creates an obsessive relationship with food
It doesn't teach you anything about why you eat the way you do
One "bad" day makes you feel like the whole week is ruined
Here's what I recommend instead:
The plate method. Every meal: 1/2 plate vegetables, 1/4 plate protein, 1/4 plate carbs. No counting. No app. Just look at your plate.
The hunger check. Before eating, ask: "Am I actually hungry, or am I bored/stressed/tired?" This one question changes everything.
The 80/20 rule. Eat nutrient-dense food 80% of the time. Enjoy whatever you want the other 20%. No guilt. No restrictions.
These aren't hacks. They're habits. And habits compound in ways that calorie counting never will.
If you want the full framework for building a sustainable relationship with food, I wrote a free guide that covers the 5 mental shifts that make it click.
