5 Packaging Mistakes That Are Killing Your E-Commerce Conversions

After designing packaging for dozens of e-commerce brands, I keep seeing the same mistakes over and over. Here's what's actually costing you sales:

1. Your unboxing experience is an afterthought.

The moment a customer opens your package is the highest-emotion touchpoint in the entire buying journey. If it feels like a random brown box with a packing slip, you just wasted the best marketing moment you'll ever get.

2. Your packaging doesn't photograph well.

In 2026, your packaging IS your marketing. If customers can't take a clean photo of your product for Instagram or TikTok, you're leaving viral moments on the table. Design for the camera first.

3. Too much text, not enough vibe.

Nobody reads the back of your box. They feel it. Color, texture, weight, and one bold visual do more work than 200 words of copy ever will.

4. You're designing for the shelf, not the feed.

Physical retail and e-commerce packaging follow completely different rules. Online, your hero image is a 400x400 thumbnail. If your design doesn't pop at that size, it doesn't exist.

5. Inconsistent brand across touchpoints.

Your website says luxury, but your packaging says budget. When the brand identity doesn't match the physical product, customers feel cheated — even if the product itself is great.

Fix these five things and watch your repeat purchase rate climb. Packaging isn't cost — it's your highest-ROI marketing channel.

5 ways to cut your wedding budget in half without anyone noticing

I've planned dozens of weddings and the #1 thing I've learned: the most expensive option is almost never the best one.

Here are 5 budget moves that save thousands without sacrificing the experience:

1. Book a Friday or Sunday. Saturday venues charge 30-50% more. Your guests will still have a great time — and you save $3-8K on the venue alone.

2. Skip the floral centerpieces. Candles + greenery runs look stunning in photos and cost a fraction. Most guests don't notice the flowers — they notice the vibe.

3. Cap the open bar at 3 hours. Nobody remembers the last hour anyway. Switch to a signature cocktail + beer/wine after dinner and save $2-4K.

4. DIY your invitations. Canva has gorgeous templates. Pair with nice cardstock and save $500-1,000 vs custom print shops.

5. Hire a day-of coordinator. You don't need a full planner if you've done the legwork — but you absolutely need someone running the show. It's the best $500-1,500 you'll spend.
