The 3 mistakes every beginner makes in the gym (and how to fix them)

I've trained dozens of beginners and the same 3 mistakes keep coming up. If you're just starting out, read this before your next session.

Mistake 1: Program hopping

You do a PPL split for 2 weeks, switch to bro split, try full body, then give up. Pick ONE program and run it for at least 8 weeks. Progressive overload only works if you're consistent with the same movements.

Mistake 2: Ignoring nutrition

You can't out-train a bad diet. If you're trying to lose fat, you need a calorie deficit. Trying to build muscle? You need a surplus. It's math, not magic. Track your food for just 1 week and you'll see exactly where you're going wrong.

Mistake 3: Ego lifting

Nobody cares how much you bench. Drop the weight, nail the form, feel the muscle working. You'll grow faster AND avoid injuries that could set you back months.

If you're a beginner who wants structured programs, nutrition guidance, and a community that actually holds you accountable — that's exactly what The Grind Lab is built for.
