Why we stopped buying cheap dog collars (and what we learned)
Quick story: we started Furry Essentials after going through three "budget" collars in under a year with our own dog. Cracked hardware, fraying nylon, one that actually rusted.
So we did the boring thing — we looked at what actually makes a collar last:
Full-grain leather or hardware-stitched webbing beats glued nylon every time. Glue fails first, always.
Solid brass or stainless hardware. Zinc alloy buckles look fine in photos and crack within months.
Stitched, not riveted, D-rings. Rivets loosen with repeated leash tension; stitching distributes the load.
We applied the same logic to treats (single-ingredient, no fillers) and clothing (real fleece lining, not synthetic "fleece-look" fabric that pills in a month).
That's the whole thesis behind our Starter Bundle — collar, treats, and a jacket, all built to the standard we wished existed when we were shopping. If you've been burned by cheap pet gear too, curious what finally worked for you.
