The #1 reason gaming communities die in week 2 (and how to fix it before you launch)
Most paid gaming communities don't fail because the niche was bad. They fail because of a content gap in week 2.
Here's the pattern I keep seeing:
Week 1: founder is hyped, posts daily, community feels alive
Week 2: founder runs out of pre-planned content, posting slows down
Week 2-3: members stop seeing value, engagement drops, churn spikes
By week 4: it's basically a ghost town with a recurring price tag attached
The fix is boring but it works: pre-build your first 2 weeks of content before you ever announce a launch date.
A minimum viable content calendar for a gaming community:
1 checklist or guide drop per week (something members can act on immediately)
1 live session (coaching call, VOD review, AMA — doesn't matter, just show up live)
1 lightweight engagement post (poll, "drop your goal", community shoutout)
That's 3 touchpoints a week. It's not a lot, but it's consistent, and consistency is what turns a trial signup into a renewing weekly member.
If you're planning a launch: block time this week to write those first 2 weeks of content before you post a single "coming soon." Your future self (and your churn rate) will thank you.
