Why most local businesses fail at digital marketing (and what actually works)

Most local business owners I talk to have tried Facebook Ads or Google at some point. They spent $500, got nothing back, and swore it off forever.

That's not a "digital marketing doesn't work" problem. That's a setup problem.

Here's what I see over and over:

1. Running ads to a bad landing page

If your ad clicks through to your homepage, you're bleeding money. Every campaign needs a dedicated page with one job: get the lead.

2. Not following up fast enough

A lead that isn't contacted within 5 minutes is 80% less likely to convert. Most business owners follow up the next day. That's too late.

3. Wrong targeting

Targeting "everyone in a 10-mile radius" is not a strategy. Specificity wins every time.

4. Stopping too early

Algorithms need 7-14 days of data to find your buyers. Most kill campaigns after 3 days and walk away with nothing.

The businesses winning in local markets aren't spending more — they're set up properly. That's what we do at GG Marketing.

1. Running ads to a bad landing page

If your ad clicks through to your homepage, you're bleeding money. Every campaign needs a dedicated page with one job: get the lead. Nothing else.

2. Not following up fast enough

A lead that isn't contacted within 5 minutes is 80% less likely to convert. Most small business owners follow up the next day. That's too late.

3. Wrong targeting

Targeting "everyone in a 10-mile radius" is not a strategy. A restaurant should be targeting people who searched for dinner in that area. A gym should be hitting people who just moved into the neighborhood. Specificity wins.

4. Stopping too early

Digital ads need data to optimize. Most business owners kill campaigns after 3 days because they didn't see immediate returns. The algorithm needs 7-14 days of data to find your buyers.

The businesses that win in local markets aren't spending more — they're set up properly from the start.

That's exactly what we do at GG Marketing. Done-for-you campaigns, built to convert, with monthly reporting so you always know what's working.
