Beauty myths that are costing you money (and ruining your skin)

Stop believing these. Seriously.

āŒ "You need to feel the burn for it to work"

No. Burning means your skin barrier is damaged. Tingling is fine. Burning is not. If a product stings, wash it off.

āŒ "Oily skin doesn't need moisturizer"

This is backwards. When you skip moisturizer, your skin overproduces oil to compensate. Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer and watch your skin balance out.

āŒ "Natural = better"

Poison ivy is natural. Arsenic is natural. "Natural" means nothing in skincare. What matters is whether the ingredient is tested, stable, and effective at the right concentration.

āŒ "You should change products every few months"

Your skin doesn't "get used to" products. If something works, keep using it. Switching constantly just irritates your barrier.

āŒ "Pores open and close"

Pores don't have muscles. They can't open or close. Steam softens the oil inside them making it easier to clean, but it doesn't "open" anything.

āŒ "SPF in your makeup is enough"

You'd need 7+ layers of foundation to get the SPF listed. Always apply a dedicated sunscreen underneath.

The $30 drugstore routine that outperforms luxury skincare

I've tested high-end skincare. La Mer, Drunk Elephant, Tatcha — all of it.

Here's the truth: a $30 drugstore routine can give you the same results. It's about the ingredients, not the packaging.

Morning (3 steps, ~$15):

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser ($6) — gentle, won't strip your skin

  • Any Vitamin C serum under $15 — brightens and protects

  • SPF 50 — non-negotiable, this is the actual anti-aging step

Night (3 steps, ~$15):

  • Same cleanser (double cleanse with micellar water if you wore makeup)

  • The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% ($6) — shrinks pores, calms redness

  • CeraVe Moisturizing Cream ($9) — locks everything in

That's it. Six products. Under $30. No 12-step routine. No $90 serums.

The beauty industry makes money by making you think you need more. You don't.

Consistency > expensive products. Every single time.

5 skincare ingredients that are actually worth the hype

Everyone's selling you "miracle" ingredients. Here are the 5 that actually have science behind them:

1. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

Reduces pore size, evens skin tone, strengthens your skin barrier. Works for literally every skin type. Start with 5% concentration.

2. Hyaluronic Acid

Holds 1000x its weight in water. Apply on damp skin or it'll actually pull moisture OUT. Layer it under your moisturizer, never on dry skin.

3. Retinol

The gold standard for anti-aging. Start low (0.25%), use at night, and buffer with moisturizer if you're a beginner. Your skin WILL purge for 2-4 weeks — push through it.

4. Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid)

Brightens, protects from sun damage, fades dark spots. Use in the morning under SPF. Store in a dark place — it oxidizes fast.

5. Salicylic Acid (BHA)

The only acid that can penetrate oil inside your pores. Game-changer for blackheads and acne. 2% is the sweet spot.

The rule: Introduce ONE new active at a time. Wait 2 weeks before adding another. Your skin isn't a chemistry experiment.

Save this. You'll thank yourself later ✨

The 3-step skincare routine that actually changed my skin

I spent years overcomplicating my skincare. 10-step routines, buying every new serum, watching every YouTube dermatologist.

Here's what actually worked when I stripped it all back:

1. Gentle cleanser, morning and night. Not a foam, not a scrub — a simple gel or milk cleanser. Your skin barrier will thank you.

2. One active at a time. Retinol OR vitamin C OR niacinamide. Pick one, use it consistently for 8 weeks before you judge it. Layering 5 actives is why your skin is freaking out.

3. SPF every single day. Even indoors. Even in winter. This is the real anti-aging secret that no product can replace.

That's it. Three steps. My skin cleared up in about 6 weeks after I stopped overloading it.
